Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell [REVIEW, kinda]

frictionandbone:

Written by Paul Dini with art by Joe Quinones

The story starts off with a really quick, but awesome introduction of both characters and I think very early on Dini once manages to capture the essence of Black Canary, Zatanna and their friendship.

You can find the plot anywhere, but the highlights are without spoilers are basically that Black Canary gets caught up in some magic-y things - and Zatanna helps. In between there’s an all female crew of casino robbers and suicide. And some cute Green Arrow happenings.

I think its hard to say why I love this book other than it feels like a really genuine portrayal of these two characters. It includes their lovable bits, their badassery and their faults (like getting caught up in bloodspells). It reads really nicely, and the art is too perfect. It captures the characters exactly; their personalities, their moods and their expressions and it flows in an almost animated way (which maybe is just my imagination, cause like, Dini) but I think there is a beautiful harmony between the words and pictures.

The story feels whole, almost informal and comfortable - like you’re invited into an intimate world of spells and friendship.

I guess I just really enjoyed this book, and thought it deserved some love on tumblr. Because I think everybody should read. READ IT NOW.

Ancient Faith in the Far Future: Motivated Villains for Traveller #1 -

Creighton Broadhurst recently wrote a blog post on what motivates villains for RPGs. I liked what he wrote, so to go along with my earlier post about villains; I set myself up a challenge, to come up with villainous NPCs that are driven by the motivations he gave.
